  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over the NEET-UG paper leak has renewed focus on democratic accountability, which ensures public authorities remain answerable for their decisions and actions.
  • India is preparing to adopt Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a renewable alternative to jet fuel that can reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions by up to 80%, with a phased blending target of 1% by 2027 and 5% by 2030.
  • The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), developed by ICAO, aims to limit emissions from international aviation through carbon offsetting, though India has opted out of its voluntary phases.
  • India abstained from voting on ILO Convention No. 193, citing concerns that stronger labour protections for gig workers could increase compliance costs and affect the growth of its digital platform economy.
  • Several countries, including the European Union, Spain, Singapore and the United States, have adopted different approaches to gig-worker regulation, while India continues to expand protections through the Code on Social Security, 2020 and the e-Shram portal.
