CLAT Marking Scheme

The CLAT marking scheme 2027 awards one mark for every correct answer, deducts 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer, and does not deduct marks for unattempted questions. Both CLAT UG and CLAT PG follow the same marking scheme. 

The CLAT 2027 question paper consists of 120 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 120 marks. Every correct and incorrect response contributes to your final CLAT score. The final score is used to prepare the All India Rank (AIR) and the merit list for admissions.

How to Calculate Your CLAT UG Score

You can calculate your score by applying the official CLAT marking scheme to your responses after checking the official answer key. Correct answers earn one mark each, while incorrect answers attract a deduction of 0.25 marks. Unanswered questions are not evaluated and do not affect the final score.

How the CLAT Marking Scheme Has Changed Over the Years

The CLAT marking scheme has changed several times since the examination was introduced in 2008. The biggest revisions involved reducing the CLAT total marks from 200 to 150 in 2020 and then to 120 in 2024. Despite these changes, the marking pattern has remained consistent, with +1 mark for every correct answer and –0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in recent years. CLAT Passing Marks (Qualifying Marks)

CLAT does not prescribe official passing or qualifying marks for admission. Admission is based on your CLAT score, category, NLU preference, seat availability, and the cut-off released during counselling. A higher score improves your chances of securing admission to your preferred National Law University.

CLAT Passing Marks for General Category

General category candidates aiming for the top three NLUs should target a score of 100+ marks. A score of 110 or above can improve your chances of admission to institutes such as NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad, based on previous admission trends.
