Gujarat Judiciary Vacancy 2026
The Gujarat High Court has released the notification on the number of vacancies for the recruitment of civil judges. The notification was released on April 24 2026. The total vacancies for the post of civil judge are 237 (approx). The Gujarat High Court may increase or decrease the number of vacancies as and when necessary. Gujarat Judiciary Eligibility Criteria 2026
The Gujarat Judiciary eligibility requirements include qualifications, category-wise age limits, etc. Although the minimum qualification is a bachelor’s degree in law, candidates need to meet the listed criteria to become eligible to apply.
- The age limit is 35 years for the general category and 38 years for the reserved category. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD are eligible for reservation.
- Proficiency in the Gujarati language is mandatory. Students who have studied Gujarati as a subject either in 10th or 12th are eligible. Candidates who have not studied the Gujarati language in classes 10th and 12th need to pass the vernacular Language Proficiency Test to be eligible for the test.
- A practising advocate in the civil or criminal domain is required.
- Candidates graduating in law from 2009-2010 onwards should pass the AIBE to be called as a practising advocate.
- A certification course in Computer Application/Operation is mandatory.
- There is no minimum marks requirement to apply for the Gujarat Judiciary.

The Gujarat Judiciary application form will be released by the High Court of Gujarat on its official website. The application is expected to be live for a month, from the last week of August to the last week of September.

Gujarat Civil Judge Selection Process
The selection process includes three stages: Preliminary, Mains and Interview. For the final merit list, marks obtained in the mains and the interview are calculated. Though preliminary, the qualifying score is 45% (40% for reserved students). The details of each have been discussed below:
Preliminary examination: The preliminary examination is the first stage, an objective-type (MCQ) based test designed to shortlist candidates for the Mains written examination. The aim of the test is to assess candidates’ knowledge of civil and criminal law, the Constitution of India, general knowledge, reasoning, computer awareness, English, and Gujarati. There is a negative of 0.33 marks in the prelim tests.
Mains examination: Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam are eligible for the main written examination. It is descriptive and evaluates a candidate’s in-depth understanding of criminal and civil law. The main examination requires candidates to write detailed answers supported by relevant legal provisions and judicial principles. The marks obtained in the mains play a significant role in determining the final merit and selection for the interview stage.
Interview: The final stage is the interview. Candidates who clear the Mains Written Examination are called for an interview to assess their overall suitability for the role of a Civil Judge. The candidate’s legal knowledge, communication skills, decision-making skills, and overall personality are tested during the Gujarat Judiciary interview round. A minimum of 40% is required in this round to be eligible for the merit list.
