- The Union Cabinet has approved the Census of India 2027, ending a gap of over 15 years since the last census in 2011 and providing updated demographic and socio-economic data for policymaking.
- Census 2027 will be India’s 16th census overall and the 8th after Independence, to be conducted in two phases with house listing in 2026 and population enumeration in February 2027.
