Highlights of 4 January 2025 Current Affairs

  • The government extended the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Weather-Based Crop Insurance until 2025-26. ₹69,515 crore will be allocated for these schemes to support farmers.
  • A ₹824.77 crore fund will be set up to improve the efficiency and transparency of crop insurance claim settlements for farmers.
  • India’s coffee exports reached $1.146 billion in FY24, a 29% rise from last year. This increase was driven by higher Robusta prices and supply shortages.
  • The UDISE+ 2023-24 report showed a 6% drop in student enrolment across several grades. However, enrolments in pre-primary and higher secondary levels increased.
  • The RBI’s report projects India’s economy will grow 6.6% in FY25. It also forecasts a rise in non-performing loans and a decrease in government debt.
  • The World Bank launched the B-READY report to evaluate business climates worldwide. India will be included in the rankings starting from 2026.
  • India’s coastal security faces challenges like non-operational boats and staff shortages. A new committee will be formed to strengthen coastal protection efforts.
  • India launched the “One Nation One Subscription” plan to centralize access to academic journals. ₹6,000 crore will be allocated to this initiative from 2025 to 2027.
  • Scientists detected high-energy neutrinos beneath the Mediterranean Sea using specialized telescopes. These particles are difficult to detect as they rarely interact with matter.
  • The government approved ₹794 crore for projects to clean and protect the Ganga River. This funding will help reduce pollution and promote sustainable river management.
