- Many PVTGs were underrepresented in the 2011 Census, with several groups counted under larger Scheduled Tribes, leaving sub-sections unrecorded.

- There are 75 identified PVTG groups across 18 states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with an estimated population of about 45.56 lakh.
