  • The Lok Sabha has passed the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, replacing the 1908 Act, to modernise governance, improve efficiency, and align with global maritime standards.
  • The Bill establishes a Maritime State Development Council, recognises State Maritime Boards, and empowers them to manage and regulate non-major ports more effectively.
  • It introduces Dispute Resolution Committees for non-major ports, bars civil court jurisdiction, and routes appeals directly to the concerned High Courts.
  • Major port tariffs will be set by the respective boards, while non-major port tariffs will be regulated by State Maritime Boards.
  • The Union Government tightened OCI card rules, enabling cancellation for convictions of two years or more or charges involving offences with seven-year sentences.
  • OCI cardholders enjoy lifelong visas, parity with NRIs in economic and educational fields, but no political rights or ownership of agricultural land.
  • The IBC (Amendment) Bill, 2025 proposes strict timelines for NCLT, encourages out-of-court resolutions, and strengthens group and cross-border insolvency frameworks.
  • The Cabinet approved four new semiconductor projects under ISM, boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers like Taiwan and China.
  • India’s semiconductor market is projected to reach $100–110 billion by 2030, with ISM schemes offering up to 50% fiscal support for fabs and display units.
  • Retail inflation in July 2025 fell to 1.55%, an eight-year low, mainly due to price drops in food, transport, vegetables, and other essential commodities.
