CLAT 2027 Maths Syllabus

CLAT Maths, officially called Quantitative Techniques, carries around 10–14 questions and tests Class 10-level mathematical concepts. The CLAT Maths 2027 syllabus includes ratios and proportions, percentages, averages, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation, along with other arithmetic concepts used in data-based questions. 

Previous-year trends show a higher occurrence of percentages, ratio and proportion, comparisons, profit and loss, and averages. CLAT Maths Syllabus 2027: Different Types of Questions

The Consortium does not publish an official chapter-wise priority list. Based on previous-year CLAT Quantitative Techniques papers, percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, and data interpretation deserve the most attention. Along with that, we have also mentioned the kind of questions you can expect from these chapters. 

Q1. Mr. Das works in a construction company. He has a family consisting of his wife and daughter. His total monthly income includes a salary of Rs. 9,228/- along with a 10% house rent allowance. Due to rising inflation, he maintains a monthly household budget based on his income and expenses.

Out of his total monthly income, he spends 25% on food, 18% on house rent, 9% on entertainment, 23% on his child’s education, and 13% on medical expenses. He saves the remaining 12% of his total monthly income. Based on this information, answer the following questions:

1. How much does Mr. Das spend on house rent every month?

Q2. Health insurance is an important means of providing financial protection and ensuring access to quality healthcare. However, the level and type of health insurance coverage in India differ considerably between urban and rural areas. Urban residents generally have greater access to organized insurance schemes, employer-sponsored coverage, and information about health policies. In contrast, rural populations often face limited access to insurance schemes, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and lower awareness. This urban-rural difference reflects the wider issue of inequality in healthcare access and highlights the need to identify the factors responsible for the gap and develop measures for more inclusive health protection.

A state-level health survey was conducted among 1,80,000 adults from urban and rural areas. Urban residents accounted for 55% of the sample, or 99,000 people, while rural residents accounted for 45%, or 81,000 people. Health insurance coverage in both areas was divided into four categories: Public schemes, Private insurance, Employer-provided coverage, and Uninsured.

Among urban residents, 28% were covered under public schemes, 22% had private insurance, 18% had employer-provided coverage, and the remaining 32% were uninsured. Among rural residents, 35% were covered under public schemes, 10% had private insurance, 8% had employer-provided coverage, and 47% were uninsured.

For the purpose of this survey, Insured refers to adults covered under Public, Private, or Employer-provided schemes, while Uninsured refers to those without any form of coverage. Officials observed that public schemes are the main source of insurance coverage in rural areas, whereas private and employer-provided insurance is more common in urban areas.

Q3. A state electricity report provides quarterly data on electricity generation and helps assess the performance of the power sector. The report records electricity generation in gigawatt hours (GWh) from five sources: Coal, Gas, Hydro, Solar, and Wind. The data can be used to understand the state’s overall energy mix, compare conventional and renewable sources, identify changes across quarters, and assess the progress of renewable energy generation.

The report records the following quarterly generation:

  • Q1: Coal generated 2,200 GWh, Gas 800 GWh, Hydro 900 GWh, Solar 700 GWh, and Wind 400 GWh, giving a total generation of 5,000 GWh.
  • Q2: Coal generation increased to 2,400 GWh, while Gas declined to 700 GWh. Hydro increased to 1,000 GWh, Solar to 800 GWh, and Wind to 600 GWh, resulting in total generation of 5,500 GWh.
  • Q3: Coal generation declined to 2,100 GWh, while Gas increased to 900 GWh. Hydro declined to 800 GWh, while Solar increased to 1,000 GWh and Wind to 700 GWh. The total generation remained 5,500 GWh.
  • Q4: Coal generated 2,300 GWh, Gas 850 GWh, Hydro 1,100 GWh, Solar 900 GWh, and Wind 850 GWh, resulting in total generation of 6,000 GWh.

For the purpose of analysis, Renewable generation = Hydro + Solar + Wind. Under a proposed carbon policy, Q4 Coal generation is reduced by 10%, and the entire reduction is divided equally between Solar and Wind.

CLAT Maths Syllabus 2027: Preparation Strategy for Beginners

If you are starting CLAT Maths from scratch, follow these five steps to build accuracy first and then improve your speed.

Start With Basic Arithmetic

Begin with percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, interest, algebra and mensuration. Do not move to advanced questions before you can solve basic problems correctly. Make a formula sheet while learning each topic and revise it regularly.

Learn One Topic at a Time

Complete one mathematical topic before moving to the next. Learn the formulas, understand the calculation method and solve a few basic examples. For example, complete percentages before moving to profit and loss, as percentage calculations are used in several arithmetic problems.

Practise Questions After Every Topic

After learning a topic, solve questions immediately instead of waiting until you finish the entire syllabus. Start with easy questions and gradually attempt CLAT-level problems. Check every incorrect answer and identify whether the mistake occurred because of a formula, calculation or misunderstanding of the question.

Move to Data Interpretation

Once your arithmetic basics are clear, practise sets based on tables, charts and other numerical data. First read the information carefully and identify what the question is asking before calculating. Practise extracting the required numbers quickly because CLAT Quantitative Techniques uses data-based questions rather than only standalone mathematical problems.

Use Practice After Building Accuracy

Do not introduce strict time limits when you are still learning basic concepts. Once you can solve questions accurately, start using timed sets. Track the number of questions you attempt, your accuracy and the time taken. Rework questions that take too long and identify calculation methods that can make your approach more efficient.
