- Supreme Court judge Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said at NALSAR Hyderabad that mass deletion of voters without notice is arbitrary and violates Articles 326 and 14, as protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar continued amid reports of ~13.3 crore names deleted under SIR.
- The Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of the planned shifting of the 135-year-old Central Secretariat Library (established 1891, in Shastri Bhawan since 1969, holding over 8.5 lakh books) from the Central Vista redevelopment site.
- The GST Council is set to discuss removing GST officers’ arrest powers under Section 69 CGST Act at its October 7 meeting, proposing arrests only via court order and raising the prosecution threshold from ₹1 crore to ₹5 crore.
- Two captive-bred male Great Indian Bustards were released into Rajasthan’s Desert National Park under Project GIB, with only about 150 GIBs estimated left in the wild and captive breeding centres producing 29 chicks in 2026.
