What is CLAT Seat Allotment?

CLAT seat allotment refers to allocating seats to eligible candidates through centralised counselling. CLAT Seat Allotment 2027 will determine the NLU and programme offered to candidates based on their CLAT rank, NLU preferences, category, reservation rules and seat availability.

The process considers several factors:

  • NLU preferences submitted by candidates
  • Category-based reservation rules
  • Seats available at each NLU
  • All India Rank secured in CLAT

The Consortium releases allotment lists in multiple rounds. Seat availability and candidate movement can affect subsequent rounds.

CLAT Seat Allotment 2027 Process

The CLAT seat allotment 2027 process will start after the results. Eligible candidates must register for counselling and submit their preferred NLUs.

  • Merit List: The Consortium releases the All India Rank and category rank based on CLAT scores.

Once the allotment list is released, you must act based on your allotment status.

  • Accept the seat: Confirm the allotment, pay the required fee, and upload the necessary documents.

What Happens If You Do Not Respond to a Seat Allotment?

In CLAT seat allotment 2027, you must respond to your allotted seat within the specified deadline. You need to choose the applicable Freeze, Float, or Exit option.

If you do not select an option within the given time, you are treated as “Not Interested” in the admission counselling process. You lose your allotted seat, and your candidature is also removed from the counselling process. You will not be considered for subsequent allotment lists.

Candidates who choose Freeze may be required to complete the applicable university fee payment within the prescribed deadline. The payment amount and deadline will be specified in the CLAT 2027 counselling instructions and by the allotted NLU. If you fail to make the payment, the Exit option is deemed to have been exercised. You then lose the allotted seat and the Confirmation Fee.

How Does NLU Preference Affect CLAT Seat Allotment?

Your NLU preference list plays an important role in determining the seat you may receive during counselling. The order you submit also affects your upgrade options.

  • You are considered for the NLUs included in your preference list.
  • Your preference order matters when you choose the Float option.
  • With Float, you can be considered for an NLU placed higher in your preference list.
  • You cannot upgrade to an NLU placed below your current allotment.
  • If you receive your highest preference, there is no higher preference available for an upgrade.

FAQs on CLAT Seat Allotment

No, you are generally considered for seat allotment only at the NLUs included in your submitted preference list. Review your preferences carefully during counselling and include the NLUs you would genuinely consider joining.

Yes, you may be considered for a higher-preference NLU in a subsequent allotment round, subject to your rank, seat availability, and counselling rules. Your existing allotted seat is retained while you are considered for an upgrade.

If you receive your second-preference NLU, you can choose to Freeze the seat or Float if you want to be considered for a higher preference. Before deciding, compare your current allotment with your preferred NLUs and check the applicable counselling deadlines.

Your eligibility for subsequent rounds depends on the Consortium's counselling rules and whether you have completed the required registration steps. Check your counselling status and the official instructions to determine whether you can be considered in later rounds.

The Consortium releases centralised allotment lists for participating NLUs through the CLAT counselling process. The list indicates the NLU allotted to each candidate, along with details such as rank, category, preference order, and admission status.
