Here is the step-by-step guide for the CLAT 2027 counselling process:
Register Online for Counselling
- After CLAT results are announced, eligible candidates invited for counselling will receive communication on their registered email address and mobile number. They can check their invitation on the CLAT 2027 portal.
- Candidates must log in to their CLAT account and validate that they have been invited for counselling during each round.

Seat Allotment
The CLAT seat allotment list will be published in several rounds. Seats will be allotted based on the candidate’s CLAT rank, NLU preferences, and seat availability.
Select Freeze/Float/Exit
Each candidate who has been allotted a seat at any NLU may use any of the ‘Freeze’, ‘Float’, or ‘Exit’ options in a counselling round based on the criteria shared below:
- Freeze option: If the candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, they accept it. If they are not interested in appearing in further rounds of seat allocation/ counselling, they may ‘Freeze’ the seat allocation.
- Float option: Candidates can retain their allotted seat while remaining eligible for a seat at an NLU placed higher in their preference list in a subsequent round, subject to the applicable counselling rules.
- Exit option: If a candidate exits after selecting Float or Freeze, the allotted seat is released for reallocation and the applicable confirmation fee may be forfeited according to the counselling rules.
Document Upload & Fee Payment
Candidates allotted a seat must complete the prescribed confirmation/payment formalities and provide the required documents within the specified deadline. Additional document-verification and admission requirements may apply at the allotted NLU.
Final Admission
Candidates who accept an allotted seat must complete the admission and document-verification formalities prescribed by the allotted NLU, including payment of the applicable university fee.
