Laptop and hard disk holding confidential study material allegedly stolen from a Jodhpur coaching institute, Law Prep Tutorial; FIR lodged at Shastri Nagar Police Station

A Jodhpur coaching institute has alleged that confidential study material and important institutional data were stolen, and police have registered a case. Law Prep Tutorial is amongst the top CLAT coaching institutes in the country. The complaint reportedly names about 10 people, including some ex-employees, and also mentions rival Legaledge Toprankers.

The complaint was lodged at Shastri Nagar Police Station by the institute’s director, Sagar Joshi. According to the complaint, former employees took a laptop and a hard disk containing sensitive information, raising concerns about possible data misuse.

The complaint states that the devices held study material, institutional records and other confidential information. It alleges they were taken at a time when several employees associated with the institute resigned, raising suspicion.

In an internal investigation, the institute found that important data, a hard disk, a laptop, and some study material were missing.

The complaint names former employees Pankaj Sharma, Abhishek Chaube, Ayush Anand, Manoj Kumar Singh, and Avinash Kumar Yadav. All were teaching various subjects at the institute at the time of their employment, while one more, Priyanka Sangtani, was a counsellor at Law Prep Tutorial. The complaint allegedly raises suspicion of a link between former employees of the Jodhpur institute and the Bhopal-based coaching company Legaledge Toprankers. The complaint also mentions the four directors of Legaledge Toprankers.

The complainant has provided appointment letters, details of company operations, WhatsApp messages, call records and digital backups to the police. Such material may help investigators determine whether confidential information was accessed, transferred or misused. The complainant has further alleged that the sudden departure of some employees affected the institute’s operations.

Police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act and other relevant provisions, and an investigation is under way. Officials are examining the allegations, searching for the missing electronic devices, and reviewing the available digital evidence. The role of those named and the status of the missing devices will become clearer as the investigation progresses.
